Who runs this site?
This site is run by one psychiatrist. All your questions and forms go directly to me and I am the only one who will read and answer them.
How does ‘Ask’ work exactly?
You send me your question via an encrypted form. I’ll answer you by e-mail.
What kind of topics can I ask you about?
You can ask about anything in the realm of mental health, for example about diagnoses, medication and therapy. Anything!
Can anyone use this site?
In order to ask me a question, you must meet the following criteria:
- Be over 18.
- Not in any acute crisis.
- Have no suicidal thoughts and no history of suicide attempts.
- Have a valid e-mail address.
- Be able to pay through paypal.
Do you treat people through this site? Can I get medications here?
I do not provide medical treatment and I most certainly don’t prescribe over the internet. I provide information. I aim to help fill the huge gap between the need to know and the lack of unbiased information on the internet.
In addition, I offer life coaching by e-mail and Skype, for physicians with burnout as well as for the general public.
I can get information from my psychiatrist.
That would certainly be ideal. The reality is that it can be hard to find a psychiatrist in many areas. Also, many psychiatrists do what is known as “15 minute medchecks” in which the patient is rushed in and out of the office and you barely have time to discuss your medications, let alone anything else that is going on in your life.
I can look things up for myself, why pay you for this?
Matter of fact, the question of how to sift through all the information on the internet is becoming a hot topic of discussion. Anyone can write anything on the Net. How do you know what’s trustworthy? How do you organise all of this information? Most psychiatric ‘information’ is nothing more than Pharmaceutical advertising – overt or disguised. To give but one example, google depression.com. You’ll see that it’s an ad for an anti-depressant. A new and expensive one! It is becoming more and more apparent that in some cases, and medicine is a good example, you need someone knowledgeable to guide you through this maze.
